A pessimist, viewing the trailer of ‘The HearbreakKid’ had dampened my spirits of watching the movie. It already showed like almost three quarters of the movie’s plot and all, yet, hoping (Oh yes, good old Hope!) that there might be something interesting and different which might just come out of the blue from the Farrelly Brothers, I crossed my fingers.
But golly, my instincts were exactly spot on!
Eddie (Ben Stiller), who failed in his last relationship, decides to take a plunge in marriage after both his father, Doc (Jerry Stiller), and long time friend Mac (Rob Coddry), coaxed him to tie the knot with Lila (MalinAckerman), whom he knew only for 6 weeks. For Eddie she was entirely perfect, only to get to know Lila’s wacky personality and apathy for the word ‘Job’, when they were spending their honeymoon in Mexico.
With the relentless ‘weird’ sexual desires of Lila and her unpredictability, Eddie came to have a liking to Miranda (Michelle Monaghan), who was also at the resort with her family. Eddie tried to juggle both Miranda and Lila until his actions were discovered, in a very sad however funny way. How funny? Well, it had a jellyfish and some pee. You go find out. ;)
Sounds lame, doesn’t it? On the whole, the plot is rather boring. The only perks might be bosoms bouncing around during love-making scenes and comedic scenes that were corny. Lila isn’t hot either.
Why oh why does it have to suck? Nevertheless, I did love the twist at the end. Though subtle, it really made the title of the movie stand out. I also loved Miranda, who was really loveable and pretty (face-wise), however, she wasn't that hot either.
In short, the movie was longer and more boring than expected. It could be a little more interesting if there were more popular casts in the movie. One word of advice - when the trailer of a romantic comedy doesn’t appeal to you, don’t be surprised that the movie won’t either!
