Back Talk Jonathan
In Jonathan's Words...

We asked a couple of members to tell us about what they thought of RV - here it is!

12 weeks ago, I first received an email invitation to sign up for RippleVox.

I wanted something fresh, I wanted a new challenge so naturally, I signed up. Being a tech-savvy guy, I opted for the MTV Pop Inc assignment to do reviews on gadgets, maybe songs and movies. I wasn’t as keen on the Singapore Idol one, firstly because I am not particularly gifted in speech and secondly, I thought the expected commitment would be more than what I can handle. These were clearly unfounded worries.

The assignment had proven to be more fun than work, and it was a great opportunity to meet new people (Go Francis!) and learn new things. I thought the latter was especially true since I had always been the interviewee but not an interviewer. To be the interviewer for a change would give me a new perspective of what makes a good interview. (Things like being spontaneous, witty, humourous)

The most memorable interview was Jay’s simply because it was the most engaging and I could relate to him best. Everyone knew him as emotional one because he cried a few times too often but after the interview, I found that there was so much more to him than what we watch on TV. This is probably true for everyone else too, how different they are in real life compared to in the box, I will never know...

From the series of interviews, I realised that one can learn a lot of Things from others not just from the contents of their answers, but also their style of answering and the way they carry themselves. I like to keep my interviews short and straight to the point, but I also want to make it different and unique to each contestant. So far, I was only able to achieve that in the last few interviews. Nonetheless, it was from them where I learnt about the other side of the contestants.

12 weeks has past, and the crowning of Singapore Idol also marked the end of the assignment. So, before I go, I would like to thank the following people: Lily, Angela and Kenneth; Starhub, Mediacorp; Brent, Jack and Veronica for ‘babysitting’ me all these while :) ; and last but not least, RippleVox, for the making it all possible!

One last thing to add, to all you people out there, as long as you have the interest, as long as you have the passion, if you want to challenge yourself, to do something no one else has ever done before, look nowhere else. RippleVox! Tada!
