It's down to the final 2, Hady Mirza and Jonathan Leong. To make things a tad more interesting, Francis and I have been given tickets to watch the show live in the Indoor Stadium!!! Singapore Idol Finals Live! What more can I ask for? (Perhaps a seat really close to the stage!!)
So, I went down to the indoor stadium on both nights and I must say, the experience was truly one of a kind. You can feel the atmosphere just by standing outside the stadiums. Fans would queue outside long before the actual time so that they could be the first to rush into the stadium. Some brought light sticks, others posters, but all of them were bursting with enthusiasm to show their fullest support for their favourite idol. I was amazed by the sheer size of fans that turned up in blue and white with the sole purpose of showing their utmost support to the respective idols. Wow, things we Singaporeans do.
The result show was definitely the better of the two shows. Everyone from the performers to the audiences was brimming with energy. With the 'crazy' muttons entertaining us during the fillers, there was never a dull moment, not to mention a toilet break! The crowd went wild after every performance, starting with the top ten finalists, followed by the opening songs by Hady and Jon. The guest artistes were fabulous, especially Electrico for rocking the whole stadium with their hit single 'Run Away'. (I think it was one of the best performances that night!) The shouts may deafen my ears, the lights may blind my eyes, but it doesn't matter, because this IS the final showdown, and I am experiencing it first hand!!!
I have been wondering what was going through Hady and Jon's mind when they stood on the stage? Did they know the results before hand? If not, were they thinking about their farewell speech? Guessing the percentage of votes they got? Maybe, maybe not.
Personally, I supported Hady as his vocal was definitely more powerful than Jon's and he dared to venture into the upper region of the music. The songs Jonathan sang however, had a higher replay value because of his unique tone. For example, the original single "you give me wings" sung by Hady was great, but I wouldn't want to listen to it too many times as it get monotonous after awhile (in my opinion) As for Jon's version, I can listen it over and over again and not get bored. However, it was still up to Singapore to choose their idol. The Hady fans were evidently making so much more noise, which kinda give us an idea of who will win. When the results were finally announced, I swore my heart skipped a beat. So, congratulations to HADY, THE NEW SINGAPORE IDOL!
Then, it was time to do our jobs. Instead of a one-to-one interview, it was a press conference where we would be competing with other reporters for questions, or so I thought. Apparently, most reporters were just there to take photos. Only five questions were asked and 2 of them were by Francis and me. I asked Hady what was the greatest challenge he thought he would face now that he has been crowned the Singapore Idol.
His reply was rather short. "Getting ready to work harder, to see if I can improve myself further." He was probably tired after everything I guess, oh well!
What do people do after an event as grand as this? PARTY! We were invited to the party at Giraffe, and it was definitely one of the most memorable experiences I had! The wine, the food, the people, the ambience, it was all so nicely done and I truly enjoyed myself. I met up with all the idols I interviewed previously and chatted for quite a bit. We took so much photos that my battery died before I could fill up my card. Thank god for the invention called the camera phone and I so had to make do with low quality photos. I saw people like Jade Seah, Daphne (Si1), Gurmit, Daniel, Electrico and many more. This was the first time in my life where I actually met so many celebrities at one shot. Gasp!
And so, this concludes the project with a bang!
