How I became a ripplevox reporter for MTV Pop Inc. ...
one fateful day on MSN on a boring day @ work......
Chris (President of SGGA): hey Rachel...
Rach: sup?
Chris: SGGA will be organizing a gamers party and MTV Pop Inc will be coming to cover this event. They are looking for a gamer girl to be a guest reporter, and I thought you are an ideal candidate.
Rach: Me? o.O
Chris: Yup… will you be interested?
-> (I know MTV but what's this Pop Inc about? Hmm hell yeah, to be part of it sounds cool already hehe... so...)
Rach: Sure... :)Sounds kewl to me but when is the event?
Chris: 31st July @ E2Max Cineleisure, it'll start at about 4:30pm where we will be giving out some prizes to some of our participants. And I was thinking to spice up the event, let's have a Gamers Vs Female Clans Challenge. We'll have the guys take on the girls for games like Counterstrike and DOTA.
Rach: Haha, that's a great idea. Will check on my girls for Counterstrike for some kick ass action haha and I've got another female team in mind for DOTA. Just keep me updated regarding the details?
Chris: No problem, thanks!
And so… that's where I got to know what Ripplevox is all about, and I was also introduced to Daniel and Chris from MTV Pop Inc. production team. Bunch of nice and friendly people including Brent and Jack from Ripplevox of course. :)
THE Day!
31st July @ E2Max
While waiting for Daniel to arrive… I looked around at the crowd of eager gamers, and I could feel the tingly sense of excitement...
The much awaited challenge will be starting in a few minutes and it was quite a rush to get both female teams settled down ...
I met Tammy, leader of the all girl DOTA team from Team[X3M]. For the clueless… DOTA's probably the hottest PC custom game from Blizzard Frozen Throne, so popular this team-based game has also turned competitive. Very often or so, you'll get "MONSTER KILL! … OWNAGE!! or HOLY S***!!!" screaming out of some lanshop speaker when good enough u kill an enemy hero, and yes that's probably one reason why the game is so addictive.
Shortly, they started their first "fight" against their male opponents and it was pretty cool to see a whole bunch of boys checking them (I mean them playing the game) out! Definitely a crowd puller, we should have this more often ...
In a blur...
In the midst of getting my girl team, RageFaction Ladies ready for a Counterstrike game challenge by our male opponents, I was running through my introduction and some interview questions that I had to pose to my team at the back of my mind. I guess women can multi-task but being a noob reporter with some jitters, hehe I started wondering how I sounded and looked on camera. (all women and some men are vain ok) There were a couple of oops screw ups here and there, but at least Daniel with the camera was very patient and forgiving about that haha… ! >.<
Oh well, didn't have much time to ponder on it… More importantly, I must say that tiny experience of some kind of limelight was definitely an eye opener for me. Not to mention, it was actually pretty fun, and I hope I managed to pull it off somehow. o.O
It was pretty hard concentrating on the game, but with some excellent gameplay from my team mates and very sporting male opponents, we won the guys with a score of 16-3! Great job girls, that was really kick ass (no offence to the boys haha) with a lot of hard work of communication, teamwork, etc involved. Before I know it, it was wrap up time. Guess time flies when you're having a good time. Man, I had a really enjoyable time and I wouldn't mind having another assignment again!
Game Over!
Big thanks to all
Hope you guys enjoy the coverage video as much as I had fun making it happen...
CHEERS!
Till then,
rachel aka p|nk*
