Voice Personality Hunt
The definitive annual event where Singapore Management University (SMU) searches for her next stellar voice talent able to hone his/her skills over the airwaves, through television and on stage. Proudly organised by SMU Broadcast and Entertainment, the contestants played DJ on SMU Campus Radio, introduced their favourite places on SMU Campus TV and did a whole load of public speaking during the VPH finals.
This year, the VPH organising committee collaborated with many corporate partners to give the finalists as much exposure as possible. 12 finalists were stringently selected from almost 100 who auditioned, each brought to the table distinctive personalities that made them stand out. 6 guys – Ibrahim, Joshua, Jeremy, Jamie, Timothy and Benjamin; 6 Girls – Gladys, Ivee, Elin, Chelsea, Kirsten and Serene, all believing they possess the golden voice, but there to give them a reality check were the 4 industry professionals who acted as the judges for VPH2007. Linda Hazis, Marketing executive of VPH event partner Ripplevox, Mediacorp artistes Jade Seah and Pornsak and acting as chief judge of VPH, Professor of SMU and prominent figure in the entertainment industry, Dr. Margaret Chan.
A huge crowd turned up for the finals on an otherwise quiet Tuesday night in the SMU city campus. The finalists pit their wits against each other as they made impromptu presentations, acted in unscripted skits and hosted a mooncake eating competition! After the intense round of battles, Gladys emerged as the VPH overall champion with Joshua as the runner up. Other awards of the night included best Radio Presenter which went to Serene and Best TV presenter which went to Ivee. Sponsored by the kind event sponsor StarHub, the winners of the night went home with brand new Sony Ericsson mobile phones. Our event partner MTV also offered the overall winner, Gladys, a guest appearance on MTV’s hit programme, Pop Inc.
The event ended with a blast with an after-party at Frujch, a student run pub in SMU. The contestants then had a chance to interact with the celebrity guests to get some valuable advice from them and everyone went home with smiles on their faces. The VPH organising committee would like to thank our sponsors StarHub, event partners MTV Asia, Ripplevox and Mediacorp and everyone who have helped made this event a success!
