"Will anyone come to our party tonight?" asked Clark.
We looked at one another with puppy eyes and burst out laughing. It was 9 plus and as he reminded us, this really felt like one of those house parties that some of us have attempted to put out during our school days. For a moment, we were kind of biting our nails, thinking that no one's gonna screw Thursday and come party with us on a Wednesday night.
It turned out our worries were unfounded. Murderfreak's visuals perked up the room and clued the onlookers in about 44beatz.
People came, trickling into the PURE room at 11ish. Another good sign was the girls strutting their stuff to Neilee's house tunes. By the time, the cuddly Onjosho took over with his uplifting tunes, the floor was sizzling. All this time, I bummed around a bit with friends, occasionally heading to the Ladies to check for panda eyes - my new mascara promises to 'stay on all day and never smudge'. Not bad, it worked! *Grins*
My set started around 12 plus. Tipsy Neilee requested for some funk-out tunes. Eagerly, I dropped both funky & techy style of breaks and in between some electro tunes. My current favourite being Chemical Bros "Do it again!" *More grins*
The crowd lingered and remained bubbly. Soon, it was Clark's turn. Like Superman, the previously walk-about camcorder guy changed suit, took over the deck and cranked it up with pumping techno. With a little assistance from Dr Alcohol, it was great to watch the crowd knocking their socks off to the bassline whilst the whooshing effects carried them to Mars and back again. The closing set belonged to Kelvin T. The Eastside boy dropped his favourite anthem - 2LiveCrew's "Oh Miss So Horny!" before branching out to techno classics.
So much for our wicked night out! Yes, all of us were thrilled and went home on a good note.
There's a vid of the night on YouTube (search for 44Beatz) and another gig planned at the same venue, so hopefully see you on 3rd October, get on the guestlist @ www.44beatz.com.
Massive thanks & shoutouts to: 44beatz crew, Ripplevox Management, Ministry Of Sound staff and everyone who pop by to support!
