Today is the second interview between Ripplevox and the ousted Singapore Idol contestants. Our main subject will be on the interview with the latest outcast of the Singapore Idol, Gayle!
Well, I must say the wait for the interview is really long. The scheduled meeting was set at four o'clock in the evening, which eventually dragged till five. The interview was conducted in the Lotus room in the MediaCorp office, the same room as last week. This of course, give rise to a sense of familiarity.
Dressed in black tanks and jeans, Gayle sat comfortably opposite your Ripplevox reporters eagerly anticipating our questions! Before the interview, she was telling me how she trimmed her own fringe earlier in the morning! We also had a chance to take a little peep into her bag, which I believed could fit almost anything! She had an umbrella, pencil case, water bottle etc all in that bag alone!
Gayle says that the main difference in life after idol would be the amount of freedom she gets. She spent the next few days after her departure from Idol, sleeping away in her room, hanging out with her friends and attending many birthday parties! She does not take the departure from the Singapore Idol to heart, as she continues to stay cheerful and smiley throughout the interview.
When asked if she prefer either life after the competition or life during the competition, her answer for a mixture of both. She enjoys preparing for the competition, attending road shows, getting her makeup and hair done by professionals and also getting to choose the clothes she likes for her performance. She also treasured the freedom she has right now, hanging out with her friends and family.
One of the major lessons learnt in this competition for Gayle was being real. She realized that one cannot pleased everybody and have to remain true to yourself. It is only when you're being yourself, will people support you and respect you. There's no point being hypocritical throughout the competition. She does not rule out joining other talent competitions.
However, she stressed that she'll definitely not participate in yet another singing competition. In her own words, "ive been there done that" and there's really no point in joining another competition of the same kind. In fact, according to her, she doesn't mind joining project runway! Well Gayle, we'll wait for good news from you!
When Gurmit skipped her name along with Rahimah during the results show, she already had a gut feeling that she belonged to the bottom three. After all, "how can Rahimah be in the bottom three?!" Gayle thinks that the reason for her exit all boils down to a wrong choice of song.
For now, all Gayle wants is lots of rest and fun. Maybe get a part time job to pay for her expenses too. She's still in contact with her good friends from the Idol competition, namely Nurul (or noodle as she calls her) and Emily. She is also planning to return back to school in the coming year.
Till then,
Francis
