Welcome to the finals of GAS Jean Denim Deconstruction!
The situation was unlike any other- a blasting storm, whirlwind setting and drenched pants. Darn. I was definitely late.
I rushed to the GAS boutique knowing perfectly well (or the lack of it perhaps?) what was to unfold. It was a jolt of excitement and nervousness. However, being fashionably late did not at all prepare me, what was to happen later.
GAS boutique is amazingly well furbished- it had a raw, sort of an untouched and rugged feel, once you step in. Unlike designer brands like Armani Exchange, Guess and perhaps Diesel; GAS stands out. I personally feel, unlike other designer brands, GAS taps onto the minimalistic and chic aspects of the aesthetics.
You sort of pick up your surroundings instantaneously once your in my position. There were people that slowly but surely, walking into the boutique. You can tell immediately that they were the designers (students from Raffles Design School and NAFA) partly because they were fiddling and giving their last minute "Midas Touch" to their designs. Other than that, they had a definite "designer aura" and what they wore was fashionably eclectic. (i like.)
Beautiful women on heels come and go. The guys (delectable. yum) popped their heads into the store. Camera man. Sound man. The very handsome VJ Colby. Were these people involved in the shoot as well? Oh my goodness..yes!
I was just so amazed at the creativity of the designs- in which the designers crafted each piece to the true sense of the word. Designers literally
de-con-struc-ted
the given subject matter and churned it to brand new. A layman would not have thought of incorporating bleaching, a sexy cut, motifs!, belts, zippers, shredding, you name it. They've done it. The art of fashion oozes through as i run my hand through each and every garment. Kudos for that, designers!
When i think about the people that i met through this experience, it makes me smile. Knowing that the same nervousness and perpetual fear turned professionalism is exactly what other Ripplevoxers felt- i totally understand. You're like a virgin- so conscious about your surroundings. You have no idea what's going on. And it becomes so claustrophobic sometimes, knowing that after a take by the camera man- you tell yourself, shucks you could have done better.
But the reassurance from the all smiling Khai, the ever-so charismatic Zan and sweetest Nicole makes the experience all the more welcoming. It's the friends that i have made and the experience that i take back, that tells me when i'm old and wrinkly (perhaps adorning LV slip ons) that i'll look back at this and smile.
The winner was a no brainer- i personally chose Victoria's. Alexandra's piece looked amazing too. Both walked away with prizes to boot- a digital camera and cash goodies, am i right?
Ripplevox is not only a platform of voice, talent and showmanship. It has recognized the appeal and branding that we love. The very people that work behind the scenes- the ones that really "got their hands dirty" are really the very people who embodies Ripplevox.
It is not their onus to make ripplevoxers feel at ease with the new setting- it is their second nature. They are a mix of professionalism and friendliness. It doesn't take much for Brent, Veronica and Angeline to smile. For that- and all the experience that i take back.
Thank you.
