  Anime Festival Asia 2008
AFA'08 Presenter
For the Anime Festival Asia 2008, I got to interview one of the most respected Japanese artistes, Ichirou Mizuki, known fondly by the public and anime fans as "Aniki" (meaning big brother). Mizuki-san started his career in 1968 and, Mizuki released his first single called "Kimi ni sasageru Boku no Uta". He is perhaps most famous for his earlier performances: the opening theme songs of the Go Nagai animated television series Mazinger Z.

Another singer was up and rising star, May Nakabayashi, more affectionately known by her stage name, May'n. This girl started her singing career at 13 and has been credited for her character, Sheryl Nome, in the hit-animation series Macross Frontier. "Diamond Crevasse" and "Lion" are among her most well-known songs.

Preview: As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by the receptionist who handed me my media pass. The venue was completely different from what I had expected it to be. The hall was barely occupied as tenants and workers were frantically setting up billboards and signages. Before I knew it, it was already my turn to interview the singers. Initially it felt funny having to smile at them without a clue of what they were saying but we managed to break the ice once we started taking pictures. I even managed to get an autograph from them, totally awesome. (:

Day 1: The day of the innagural arcade showdown and I have wouldnt missed this for anything! With games kile Tekken 5 and Street fighter, it was interesting watching the fierce competitors battling amongst themselves to win a spot in the next round. Ichirou Mizuki also made an appearance and sang various songs from popular animation series like Gundam Mobile. No wonder he's dubbed as the big brother of the anison music!

Day 2: Cosplay Mania is the name of my game. I was all dressed up as a japanese dollfie, ready to go with the flow. It was a sight to behold as cosplayers from different background came together to put up a spectacular show. As I returned for May'n's concert later that evening, I was shocked to see that nearly half the hall was packed with ardent fans, all chanting her name while waiting for her arrival. The unity in her fans really put a smile to my face.

Overall, my experiences at the AFA'08 was memorable. Being a presenter was challenging, not to mention I had a awful sore throat but nonetheless, it boosted my confidence level and I truly enjoyed myself.

Last but not least, I would like to thank Ripplevox and MTVAsia for giving me a chance to attend and host my first RV event.

Alright, gotta go catch Marcoss Frontier now, cheers!

xoxo,
Del
