Truthfully speaking I did not really know who Aska Yang (aka Yang Zhong Wei), prior to this less for the fact that I knew he was a newcomer to the chinese music industry.

The opportunity came when Ripplevox offered me to attend his Promotion Showcase at Zouk on 29 March, so I readily agreed.

I was surprised that there were many fans in Zouk when I arrived that Saturday evening. They were all waiting in anticipation for the arrival of their idol.

In 2007 Aska Yang joined a TV singing competition "One Million Star". Aska was an early favorite to run away with the competition. His powerful and soul touching voice drew millions of music lovers and he was also voted as the "Most Popular Contestant" in the competition.

At 5pm, Yes933 DJ Ding Zhi Yong came onto stage to warm the crowd up, although he did not do much as the crowd were already excited and screaming their lungs out.

With the cries of the audience, Aska appeared and sang his first song "Dove". Maybe it was his first song, that he was not warmed up yet, the high notes were rather weak, nonetheless it was a 2 thumbs up for me as subsequent songs were very good and I enjoyed the song "Onion" the most.

He was also very accomodating when there were requests from his fans to sing some songs from the competition, to which he readily agreed and sang some excerpts of those songs. Another 2 thumbs up for connecting with the audience.

However I felt that he was troubled by some problems back in his hometown Taiwan which at some points in time made the atmosphere rather awkward. Lets hope he overcomes the adversities and continue to shine as a superstar.

Overall, its 4 out of 5 stars for the event as I thought it was rather short lasting less than an hour. Maybe could have sang more songs or played some games with the audience or even give some collectables to the audience.
