  The Heartbreak Kid
Heartbreak Kid

Put a formulaic romance comedy, spiced up with classic Farrelly Brothers raunch artifice and what do you get? The Heartbreak Kid .

The Heartbreak Kid, not only reunites the Farrelly Brothers with There's Something About Mary star Ben Stiller, it also restores - and arguably ups - the raunchiness. So much so, in fact, that it becomes exceedingly uncomfortable and grotesque at some point in time in the movie. Oh how they make Ben Stiller suffer.

There’s a moment early on in The Heartbreak Kid where Jerry Stiller, playing movie father to his real life son Ben Stiller’s character, suggests his boy stop worrying about romance and instead follow him to Vegas where they’ll pick up chicks for a double team. The Farrelly Brothers’ script goes the other way instead, but the movie’s too few moments between Stiller and Stiller are so gut-bustingly hilarious it’s hard not to wonder how much funnier the film might have been had it ended up being about a 40ish man and his elderly father chasing hookers around Sin City.

Credit must go to Swedish Malin Akerman for her Spice Girls imitation (one of my favourite moments in the show) and her insatiable appetite for hilariously athletic sex (can't describe much here - PG rating right?). Oh how they REALLY make Ben suffer.

The cinema hall was almost full when I entered 5 minutes prior to the screening and the good seats long taken up. I had to settle for seats at the sides somewhere at the front near the aisle. Talk about kaisu-ness when its stated "Free Seating" on your movie ticket. Tsk.

There were moments where I nearly choked on my laughter but other times made me start to plan my trip back home. Its a yet-agin-funny-Ben-moive but it would be better if they shorten the gaps between those funny moments.

I wouldn't mind choking on my laughter you know.

Anyway many thanks to Ripplevox for the movie invite. I hope there would be many more to come!

=)
